Yesterday night, or rather, this morning, was encouraging, discouraging and nostalgic, all at once. The encouraging part was seeing all the JV kids and younger ICON-ers step up, like Civia who had enough motivation to raise over $1000, or so I heard. It's incredible. The problem with our generation is that nobody is willing to take initiative, and this proved that there's still something left in us. And even though I wasn't there for the worship portion of the night, when I heard about who was on the team, it just lifted my spirits. Even though it wasn't as clean as it could've been, it was a start. Those are our future leaders. I'm excited to see what will come out of this group of kids. Lately, I've been hearing a lot about looking out for those "Kingdom of God" moments. Those are the moments, the ones that you come across on a daily basis that just pass you by, where God is present without us realizing it. I was blessed enough to be able to see some of those moments.
The nostalgia came around when I was working on my math, and I saw a group of girls playing Spoons. That was us in previous years, wrestling spoons from each other, being ridiculously loud, dancing, spinning, and teasing the older people for bringing their homework. It's kinda strange that now that our role is reversed. Now we're the ones with our laptops doing Biology and Calculus. This year is the first year that I haven't been able to pull an all-nighter at the famine. I remember back in the day, at my first 30 Hour Famine, I forced Kathleen to stay up with me, and dragged her out into the middle of the street to watch the sun rise. This year, I joined her in passing out in the church library floor. Times passes so quickly.
And here's the discouraging part: Does growing up mean getting boring?
