Today, we were put in a less than ideal situation. We had to do worship AMC style(when they put the drums in the kitchen) and set up half our team in a storage closet. Our set was about to fall to pieces the night before, and everyone was a little on edge. I had been singing Bob Marley at people, hoping things would get a little better, but even Three Little Birds couldn't lift spirits up. And then, I had to stop everyone, because I felt the inexplicable need to pray before we went any further. I just needed a way to express that we are bound to screw things up, one way or another, but He promises us that He will make something of it as long as we leave it in His hands.
That was one of two lessons that I learned today about prayer. When you're trying to pull yourself and everyone else together, it's so easy to forget that the one thing that can do that is prayer. Before you start something, pray. When things go wrong, pray. When things go right, pray. When you finish something, pray. When you see the kingdom of God on earth, like a woman dancing around with a harmonica, pray. It's the lesson we hear all the time in Sunday School, but those are the ones that are the hardest to learn.
And the second lesson is that prayer is powerful.
As silly it may sound to ask for a sky of nimbus clouds (yes, Geography class) to clear up, or to pull over to the side of the road and lay hands on a car, prayer works. I for one, do not believe in coincidences.
... And God, if you can prevent the breakdown of speakers and vehicles, I know you can do the same for hearts.
