Pictures and the Stories Behind Them:
Lee-Ann and I have been talking about taking a road trip for so long, and we finally did it! This is the best I could do in a moving car, but look! It's Seattle!
This is Felicia. I met her in 2008 during my first time in Taiwan. We've hung out together in Taiwan, Portland, Vancouver, and Hong Kong, so I was incredibly excited to see her in Seattle!! She is very beautiful, hilarious, and stylish (can you tell that she picked out my outfit?), and she is such a blessing to have in my life. She says things like, "sketch ma-getch" and "broham," and has the instincts of a mother bear. Felicia was kind enough to let us stay at her place for the past 3 days, and take us around Seattle. The good times were endless.

On our first night, Felicia took us to Molly Moon's Homemade Ice Cream Shop. It was probably around 8 or 9 at night, and there was still a huge line-up outside the store, which made sense, because it was some of the best ice cream I have ever had in my life! It was SUPER creamy, not TOO sweet, and they had unique flavours like salty caramel and earl gray. AND you can ask for half scoops, so you can get two flavours in one scoop, but they're basically two scoops! So legit!
For Sunday morning brunch, we went to Portage Bay Cafe. The wait for a table was 45 minutes long, so I knew it had to be good. This is the Lemon Curd French Toast, and there was a topping bar so you could pile fresh fruits onto your food! EVERYTHING was SO delicious. The sweet food was super rich, and the savory food had such strong flavours. I would probably rank this on one of my Top 5 Meals I've ever had in my life (not that I actually have a top 5), because it was just that good.
When we were walking back from Pike Place on Sunday afternoon (which is the only touristy thing we did, and it was for a very short amount of time because we got there as everything was closing up... sadly enough because I really wanted to see the market), we passed by the most adorable antique shop. I could have spent HOURS in there, because every shelf, wall, and room was lined with little trinkets like old-school cameras, vintage suitcases, posters from the 30's, antique furniture, and even things like can labels, toys, jewelry, and picture frames (with the pictures still inside, which I thought was a little weird to be selling) all ranging from the 20's to the 70's. Basically everything you can think of was there. Like there was even this old briefcase full of vintage postcards, and it was just so incredibly cool. I probably loved it so much, because there was SO much stuff in it that it reminded me of my room.
On our last day, Felicia took us to The Elliot Bay Book Company. It was this quaint little book store that smelled like wood and fresh pages. All the shelves had little pieces of paper taped onto them with handwritten descriptions and reviews of certain books, which made the whole place seem that much more personalized. I picked up an $8 copy of To Kill A Mockingbird (my favourite book of all time!) and this beautiful book called Everything is its own reward by Paul Madonna. I actually found it in the Comics section, but it's more like a book filled with watercolour paintings and writing on them. The author describes himself as an artist that supports his writing by painting. It's mostly monochromatic, and even thought I'm usually drawn to brighter colours, it was so pretty that I fell in love with it right away and just had to have it.
Across the street from the book store was this record and used CD shop called Everyday Music. We found some of the most ridiculous records there, and it was just incredibly fun to look around at all the different stuff they had there. It was crazy because even though it was a used CD shop, they had basically every artist that I was looking for. I bought 4 albums for just $25! Essentially, we spend the day doing a bunch of hipster things, and it was great.
One of our last stops was Dick's Drive-In Restaurant. It was one of those places that hasn't changed very much since the 50's. They had greasy $2 burgers, classic milkshakes, and an old-fashion vibe to it. Felicia described it as, "what America ate before they realized what health was,' aha! It was gross in the best kind of way, and was a pretty sweet experience.
Overall, it was one of the best trips I've ever been on, and so much fun because we had our own agenda. I wish I could have stayed a little longer to explore the city and eat more good food!
But now, I have a friend to entertain while he's here from California, work, and then another retreat this coming weekend. Things are running non-stop for me, and it's kinda crazy, but it's also going to be so good.

I am REALLY stoked to write this blog post because it's all about FOOD! Here's a few things that I've been enjoying lately:
Greek Yogurt
I've had this roll twice in a week, and I think it's because of my renewed love for avocados. That, or I just really enjoy the novelty of the fact that the roll really does resemble a caterpillar. Either way, I go to Sushi California so often that it's not even funny, so this will probably become a staple to my diet.
Red Velvet Cupcake from Cupcakes
I LOVE red velvet cupcakes, because they always come with that phenomenal cream cheese icing. I've always thought that Cupcakes has been a little overpriced, but I also find that I never regret buying a cupcake as soon as I take my first bite. Their icing is always so thick and creamy, but it never gets too rich or sweet either. My mouth is watering just reliving the moment of eating this cupcake!
Nachos from Foundation
I've been dying to check out Foundation for their renown nachos, and also because I have a soft spot for vegetarian food. The place itself is pretty grubby, and the service is absolutely terrible, but if you like hipster things (seriously, glass jars as cups. You can't get more hipster than that) and vegetarian food, this is the place to go. Actually, even if you don't particularly like vegetarian food, I still say give this place a try. I don't know what it is, but these nachos were seriously the bomb. I can't wait to go back and try other things on their menu!
High Tea at Faubourg
I haven't had high tea in forever, so I was really excited to try out this quaint French place on W41st. They also have a coffee shop attached, and I'm definitely going back for some of their pastries. I was a little bit disappointed that they didn't have a huge selection of teas, but nonetheless, it was still pretty good. And I say pretty good, because it wasn't the best I've had, but it was better than okay. Some of the finger sandwiches and desserts were seriously prime. And I could barely understand what our waiter was saying through his French accent, so you know it has to be legit. The coffee shop was bustling, but the afternoon tea section was pretty quiet, so it was relaxing to just sit for a while and chat with a few of the lovely ladies in my life.
But anyways, I'm going to tie up the post with the theme from tonight that somewhat relates to food:
"You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows" - Psalm 23:5
I guess this would be a reminder to myself that what God gives to me isn't just a table of food. He gives me a huge feast that is overflowing with a never-ending source of replenishment, especially when my heart aches like it does right now. He will just keep giving more and more, and He will never stop.
Greek Yogurt
I've heard so many things about how greek yogurt is good for you, and how it's low-fat and so full of protein so I decided to buy some and experiment. Texture-wise, it's more thick, so I get why some people don't like it, but I found some pretty good combinations with it (like with fresh-cut mangoes in the picture above)! I found a few more recipes online that I want to try, so I'm probably going to buy more in the near future.
Avocados
I probably sound like a health food nut or something, because I'm listing all these "super foods," but seriously, this stuff is good.
I can always count on eating well whenever I go to Abby's, and when I went last week, I definitely was not disappointed. We made sandwiches with sliced avocados, peppered smoked salmon, and goat cheese. It sounds like a weird mix, but all the flavour explosion in my mouth worked for me. Plus, Abby made some quesadillas and homemade guacamole later in the day, and as usual, it was amazing.
Caterpillar Roll from Sushi California
I've had this roll twice in a week, and I think it's because of my renewed love for avocados. That, or I just really enjoy the novelty of the fact that the roll really does resemble a caterpillar. Either way, I go to Sushi California so often that it's not even funny, so this will probably become a staple to my diet.

"Hey, you wanna watch Hunger Games with us tonight? ... Oh wait, we already reserved tickets without you. Nevermind."
... Sigh...
At least I ate a cupcake today and it was freaking delicious! And it had the good kind of icing.
... So this is what my life has come to.

I spent a sunny Saturday afternoon at Granville Island today. We did a photo scavenger with Food Society, so we had a good time taking awkward pictures and running around the market doing challenges. I've only been there twice, and both times were at night, so it was a lot of fun exploring the area with all its quaint shops, gorgeous waterfront view, and endless amount of buskers. I bet Emily Carr students get inspired just by being there alone. It's probably even more lovely in the summer, so I hope I'll go there with some of my girls when the weather gets warm!
I've heard a lot about the Granville Island Tea Company, so I was excited to finally be able to buy some tea from the shop! A friend recommended Brandied Apple, and the woman at the counter recommended us Lady Londonderry (which is strawberry and papaya flavored), and I love fruity teas so I'm stoked to try them! We also bought some candied and flavored smoked salmon, which is always a treat, so life is good right now.
Today, I also watched Hugo, which is such a beautiful film. It's set in old Paris (which I absolutely adore because everyone looks so classy!) and is about a boy who lives in a train station. The movie was extremely well-done and you won't be able to help falling in love with the characters. I highly recommend to anyone who reads this to see it!
Also, I would like to live in a floating house. Maybe not a pink one, but I can't imagine living anywhere that isn't close to water... And I guess this is literally the closest you can get!
That is all. Goodnight!

My mom just gave me this True Color Mocha Latte Eyeshadow Quad by Avon in Latte, Beige, Iced Coffee and Espresso. I like it mostly because of the coffee-themed color names and partly because they're colors anybody could pull off.
I finally got around to painting the cup that Lem got me 2 Christmases ago. It's not even close to perfect, but I think that gives it character.... Right? Anyways, it probably holds the amount of liquid equivalent to two mugs, so I can drink tea until I pee my pants without having to go down to the kitchen for a refill.

I've been to Cafe Deux Soleil a few times before, but I've only ever gotten drinks there. My girls and I decided to have lunch there. All their food is vegetarian, and some of it is only mediocre... But the wrap I got was AMAZING. It's just vegetables and rice... But it's not JUST vegetables and rice. There was so much flavor and the bean sprouts were wonderful. I was full, but I kept eating because it was just that good. I would definitely go back again just for that wrap.
I love hitting up hipster vintage places. There's a certain smell to shops like that, and it always feel welcoming. I'm pretty cautious when it comes to buying used clothes, and vintage shops tend to jack up the prices a little bit, but I still love the process of looking through everything. And occasionally, I'll find something good!
This is what my friend Abby has hanging over her bed. She always decorates her room really nice, and it never fails to look really homey. I wish my room was neat enough to make it worth decorating like this.
Home-made cookies. There's not much more to say.

Hello first post of the new year!
I haven't been blogging much lately, but here are some pictures and words to wrap up my Christmas break.
I spent my Christmas in Vegas. Las Vegas is honestly one of the last places that comes to mind when I think about the birth of Jesus, but I somehow found myself wandering the The Strip on Christmas Day with my cousins. Vegas is everything it's built up to be. The streets are filled with bright lights, copies of world monuments, casinos, clubs, palm trees, peep shows, other more family-friendly shows, and tackiness galore. While I was there I...
Had some good quality time with family.
Saw some beautiful things and took pictures of them.
Explored, tourist-style.
And had some of the best crepes of my life in Paris (the hotel).
When I came home, I spent some time with friends...
Danced my way into the New Year...
(Arthur and I don't stick out at all)
And listened to my best and my boy make music.
But school starts again tomorrow, and I've got a new schedule to memorize, textbooks to sort out and 6 am wake-ups to get used to. I've got my backpack packed (with no pencils, since I somehow lost them all over the break), my routes to classes planned out (I have to be efficient since my bad course planning resulted in multiple back-to-back classes) and a bowl of sai mai lo and a book on my bedside waiting for me before I sleep away the last of my break.
Goodnight world. Hopefully this next semester will be a good one.

My mom recently gave me this tea set by Tea Forte, and I fell in love with it immediately. First of all, their triangle-shaped tea bags are absolutely adorable, and my favourite colour so happens to be green. I've never really had a need for tea trays before since I usually just throw leaves into a pot to brew tea*, but this one actually serves its purpose, because you're definitely going to get more than one cup of tea out of each bag. And doesn't it just look so nice all together? This set only comes with standard teas like Earl Grey and Chamomile, and as much as I love trying new flavours (like David Tea's Chocolate Chili Chai??? I haven't tried it but let me know how it is if you do), the basics are always good to have. I've been browsing their site fighting the temptation to fill our tea cupboard with more boxes of exotic teas with fancy names that my parents keep telling me to stop buying and tea accessories that we really don't need. All in all, this is the perfect companion for all the books in my shelf that are half-finished that I am DEFINITELY going to finish this break.
*this is mostly because I'm lazy and don't like walking up and down the stairs for refills... and if I spill anymore liquids on our carpet, my parents are going to slaughter me

My last final is tomorrow, but here are three things I want to share before I continue with my long day of Archaeology-cramming.
1. There's this guy named Pete Fecteau who makes artwork out of Rubik's Cubes. Seriously. WHAT THE HECK. I can't even solve one Rubik's Cube, but this guy has it to a tee.
2. The Sandbar
I always say that I could give up meat, but I could never give up seafood, so I was thrilled to go with Valerie last night to the Sandbar. It's located on Granville Island right under the bridge, so obviously it's a little more pricey but the view is quite nice. Their food is really fresh, especially their oysters, which you can order off their Daily Fresh Sheet. I had the Pan-Seared Scallops, and I'm pretty sure they were the best scallops I have ever had. I was really surprised they didn't skimp out on the scallops, because that's usually what most restaurants like that would do. The sauce was really buttery, in a good way, and it came with grated squash, which was super tasty. The Sandbar has that nighttime, low-light, romantic atmosphere and their chairs were more like comfy couches, so I wish that we weren't in a rush that day or else I would have liked to just kick back and hang out there for a little while longer.
3. Recipes to try this winter break:
There are a lot of things I would like to try this winter break. I'm trying not to be overly ambitious because my cooking skills consist of this:
(Hyperbole and a Half anyone?)
But here are two things to start:

Apple Chaider!
I had never tried homemade apple cider before last Christmas, and I'm hoping to find a good recipe and make some this break. That, with a Chai teabag thrown in sounds like the perfect way to warm up this winter season.
Also, I found this homemade Oreo recipe on Smitten Kitchen.
Yes, I know that mine will not turn out looking like that... But it's worth a try!
#72.
Continuing on tonight's theme, these are a few of my favourite things (lately):
1. My white wool cardigan
I picked up this cardigan up from Value Village a few weeks ago (in the men's section, because as usual, the girl's section was lacking). It's perfect for the winter because it's thick and toasty. AND unlike most wool cardigans that I've found, it's comfy and not scratchy at all. It is also classy enough that I can throw it on when I'm feeling lazy and not look like a total slob. This will be one of those things that I still keep in my closet even when I'm 50.
2. Instapaper
There are always a few things you always check on the internet right when you get home: Facebook, Twitter, and for me especially, blog posts and articles from the Huffington Post and Bigthink. And if you're anything like me, you're not always in the mood to read huge long pieces of writing, even if they do sound SUPER interesting. This is where Instapaper comes in handy! It has the same idea as Youtube's Watch Later playlist. You get an account and then get a "Read Later" button on your bookmark bar. Then whenever you want to bookmark something to read later (get it? Bookmark? Read later? Ha..Ha..), it's conveniently right there!
3. Cat eyes
I used to be appalled at the thought of ever trying to wear cat eyeliner, because I've seen it done terribly on too many people, and I've always thought that it would look too unnatural on my Asian eyes. But lately, I've realize that it can be done tastefully and subtly. And why yes, I did just manage to slip a picture of Hayley Williams in this blog post. I'm really tempted to ramble on about how bad ass she is and how much I wish I could be a rocker chick like her, but I'll save that for another day. Even if you don't appreciate it, I know Esther will.
4. Concerts
Today I went back to my high school (I know, no surprise. I'm there pretty much every week or so) for a music concert. It's always strange to come back as alumni. There's always familiar faces, people who have impacted you so greatly and strange nostalgia. The music program always reuses pieces so I found myself singing along to the songs and feeling the urge to bust out my saxophone again. That also means, my little band geeks, that since I knew everything by heart, I could tell where every mistake was, even if the rest of the audience couldn't.
5. Community
Newman recently got me hooked onto this show called Community. It's incredibly hilarious, and every character has his or her own little quirks. I usually don't like it when the main character's a douchebag (I just always want them to win!) but I actually don't mind it for this show, as evidently shown by the rapid speed at which I'm whipping through episodes. Finals period is probably a really bad time for me to get addicted to TV, but I guess it's also a good way to kick back and try not to be stressed out for a little while.
6. Waves Coffee
A new library opened up by my house last year, and I was super stoked to not have to go to the dinky old library by the Royal City Mall anymore. The new library has a modern design, with windows all around it so it's very bright and well-lit. The only problem is that there are NEVER any seats there. I actually don't think there's even any study spaces. I would always walk in, walk out and then head down the street to Waves where there's wi-fi and a semi-quiet place to study, and it's opened later than the library too. Now, I just skip the library and go straight to Waves. I wonder if they get annoyed at all, because I always sit there for 6 hours with my nose in a textbook and only ever buy one drink...
7. Chocolate-Covered Coconut Macaroons
No blog post like this would ever be complete without something about food! Honestly, I haven't been going out to eat as much lately because of finals. I tend to study so hard that I forget to eat... It's really bad. I know. My body will hate me for this. However, this does not seem to be a problem when I go study with Jancy. We hit up the new Super Walmart at Guildford (OMIGAH, IT'S HUGE!) to pick up some snacks before a study session, and I bought a box of chocolate-covered coconut macaroons, which is underneath the Ferrero Rochers and beside the Smart Popcorn in the picture... Holy crap, I could not stop eating them. I mean, I'm not really much of a junk-food binger, but I consider dessert as my favourite food and my sweet tooth tends to get the best of me. Good thing I'm dating a Dutch boy because I heard that they eat dessert before dinner.
PS: I promise you that we did not eat all the food in the picture above.
Anyways, that is all for tonight. A long day of studying lies ahead for me tomorrow (after a few episodes of Community................).
